I’m looking forward to speaking at this event in Amsterdam this autumn. The outline of my talk is below.
‘That full complement of riches’: the future role of anthropology in business and society
‘That full complement of riches’ is a phrase coined by Adam Smith in his Wealth of Nations of 1776 to describe the success of certain nations in achieving their full economic and social potential. My talk will describe the opportunities I see for anthropologists to reach their own potential by using their unique skills in researching, analyzing and understanding social and cultural life. I will demonstrate that there is an strong appetite for these skills in business and policy contexts, where increasing complexity and major transformations require fresh perspectives. I will close by outlining practical suggestions for carving out a successful career as an anthropologist in business and society
